Masterclass Opportunity Returns to Lydden

Lydden Hill Motorsport Club in association with Peter Gwynne Motorsport are pleased to announce a return for the Rallycross Master-class experience taking place on Sunday 24th January 2010, which follows round one of the Rallycross Winter Series on 23rd January at Lydden Hill Race Circuit, Kent.

The Master-class experience is open to either existing Rallycross competitors who wish to brush up their on-track skills or indeed anyone with a valid UK driving license. This will be a perfect opportunity for possible newcomers who are looking at competing in the sport and will give a true feel of what it's like to drive a Rallycross car around a real Rallycross circuit.

On hand will be top Supercar driver Steve Hill, Ex-Supercar and BTCC racer Andrew Jordan and Rally professional Paul Alexander who will be personally teaching skills and tactics throughout the course of the day, both in a classroom environment and also on track where budding competitors will get to drive in at least three outings of the newly announced 1600 Suzuki Swift Sports and a Bill Gwynne Rallyschool Nissan Micra. Advice will be given by all three instructors on which lines to take, cornering techniques, braking zones and gear changes, while gaining a true experience, and a unique opportunity to test the Suzuki Swift ahead of the championship launch in 2010. Current British Champion, Pat Doran will also be giving pointers and advice.

Bob Hardie, (Aylesbury Youth Motor Project Co-ordinator and Stock Hatch Driver) attended the first Masterclass back in October: " This would be my first chance to get proper instruction as to the correct lines around a circuit that I just can't seem to get on top of, and a chance to sample the new for 2010 Suzuki Swift. This was a fabulous opportunity for me to see inside the more professional teams' approach to a Rallycross event. It was good to see lots of new faces contemplating taking up the sport or just having a taster of what could be the start of something new and exciting. The day was informative and very enjoyable, would highly recommend to anyone considering taking up the sport."

He added "As for the Suzuki? The car was easy to drive, although being a left hooker took a little getting used to! The engine pulled cleanly from low rev's with a noticeable step in power around 4000 RPM pulling hard up to the red line, Suspension was the biggest shock as Chesson's seemed to have few noticeable bumps compared to my 205 which crashes and bangs on to the bump stops. The car felt light and nimble with good turn in and able to hold the line that you wanted. With  futher development of the car by Peter Gwynne Motorsport i.e. +20BHP and weight loss of approximately 150kg this is going to be a great car. Subject to the necessary funding being available I would love to have a Suzuki on the grid in 2010."

The experience will be finished off with a chance of a lifetime passenger seating in a fully sorted Supercar around Lydden Rallycross Circuit which will be awarded to the most improved driver as judged by the instructors -  Master-class completiton certificates will be presented afterwards to all participants.

There are also opportunities available for potential 2010 competitors to actually drive one of the Supercars on the day, this must be arranged by appointment with Lydden Hill.

The Master-class costs just £299 per driver, helmets are provided if required and anyone with a valid UK driving license able to drive a manual transmission road car are invited to take part, however numbers are strictly limited, to book or for further information contact Lydden Hill. Junior competitors aged between 14-16 are also invited to take part but will need to contact Peter Gwynne Motorsport as special arrangements need to be made.

Vouchers are available directly from Lydden Hill Race Circuit (01304) 830557 and would make an ideal Christmas present for the ultimate Rallycross experience.

Any new competitors for 2010 who successfully complete the Master-class are eligible for a full refund should they compete in the 2010 MSA British Rallycross Championship or if they proceed with competing in the new Suzuki Swift Sport Rallycross Championship launching next season.
